A couple that prays together, stays together.

We all know the importance of prayer. We are supposed to pray through all circumstances, it’s an essential part of our relationship with God.  No matter what we go through, people always ask, ” Well did you pray about it?”  It’s because we as children of God are supposed to communicate all things to God through prayer. There is power in praying for those you are in a relationship with. Whether familial, platonic, or romantic, it’s needed.  Let’s discuss praying for your boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife. Before entering into a relationship, it’s important that we are praying for our significant other.  We never know what they are going through and the trials and tribulations they face on a daily basis. That’s why intercessor is so important. We are so excited to get into relationships, but never take the time to do the work to keep the relationships. Prayer plays a major role in growing together with your significant other. Prayer connects the hearts of two people and gives them the strength and guidance to make better decisions. Prayer is an opportunity to trust God with your relationship. Once we pray, we are to trust that God would turn our situations around. Prayer is a faith move! We are to have faith that God will do what he said. He told us that if he asks, we will receive if we believe. Do you believe in what you are praying for?

One thing I noticed is that when you don’t pray the enemy tries to use that as an opportunity to wreck havoc in your life, relationships, finances, and so on. We are to stay alert at all times, the word says that the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour(1 Peter 5:8). So anytime we leave a door open with arguments, negative attitudes, and unresolved issues, The enemy uses it as leverage for destruction.  Yes! We are human. Sometimes we don’t feel like praying, but if we truly understood the power in our prayers we would use every opportunity to pray. Praying for your significant other is great, but praying together is even better. I truly believe if couples spent more time praying and worshipping together there would be less arguing. In Matthew 18:20 it says, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” When I think about that, it’s such a powerful force. Not only are you and your partner on one accord, but the Lord is in the midst.

What happens when you don’t pray ???? The enemy is smiling and using your relationship as a playground. More arguments, frustration, negative attitudes, unpleasant spirits, etc. When we allow our issues to distract us from the goodness of God and our partner, we lose sight of how to use our weapons. Instead of using it for good, we use it for evil. For example, we are to use words to bless and not curse. Without prayer and guidance from our Lord, we can easily hurt our partner by saying things out of anger. I’ll admit that I’m guilty of that sin. Even though God forgives us, we are to treat his children with kindness and respect. The enemy likes to make us think that we are fighting with our partner. We are constantly blaming one another and allowing our emotions/feelings to get In the way of the bigger picture. Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” The battle is not yours!!!

We are to be specific in our prayers while applying scripture. I’ve learned that God responds best to his word. Whatever the situation, you can always find scripture to apply. When applying Scripture, insert you and your partners’ name. You want to make your prayers personal. This allows you the opportunity to open your heart and allow God to give you compassion for your partner as well. So often, we pray for God to change the other person, but we have to look at ourselves. The same way we want God to change their hearts, we have to be open for God to change ours.  Prayer is powerful!!!

Take the time to re-evaluate your prayer life.  Whatever you need to do, don’t be afraid to do it. God didn’t give you a spirit of fear! It’s never too late. God is waiting for you. The word tells us, “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”(John 14:13)
